At Energy Base, we use the Hager EH011 timer for controlling daytime heating of your hot water from your solar system.
The EH011 is ultra-reliable and features a battery backup to ensure that it keeps time, even if there is a 200hr mains power outage
Sometimes we receive calls from customers wishing to adjust their heating period, or override and heat water from the grid immediately.
Below is an instruction from Hager showing you how to setup and operate the timer:

Keep in mind that the timer dial is to be rolled UP only, and don’t forget to return the grey toggle switch to AUTO when you are finished setting up, or finished using the override.
As a guide, we set the timer to heat from 9-10am until 2-3pm for most homes.
Sometimes, in winter, customers wish to set an overnight boost for 1-2hrs to ensure really hot water for morning showers. This overnight boost is then removed in spring time following the instructions in the video above.
